I think (even before nemo) the clownfish was a big attention grabber for it's outgoing personality and color.
Too bad the lfs is out, assuming it was a good one anyway.

    Thanks sostoudt!

I had a SW tank when I was 15 or 16. That was in the day of undergravel filters and air pumps. The fish I had to have then was a Maroon Clown. Back then, I didn't know anything about the nitrogen cycle, or that my anemone needed light to live.

I inherited my Queen Trigger form my son, and the fish that inspired me to start a new tank was my Blueline Trigger. I found out about a local reef club and started a small 20 gallon coral tank. I was given so many corals from local reefers, I had to upgrade to a 40 breeder after about three weeks! Now I have over 600 gallons of saltwater in my house. My wife says when we sell it, we'll have to list it as pre-drilled.

My older cousin always had saltwater tanks when I was younger that I loved, I used to go to the fish store with him when he bought new fish and I used to help him feed his fish all the time. Then my parents bought me a little sw tank that was maybe 3-4 gal that I had in my room, we filled it with fish and inverts "harvested" from the tide pools in SO Cal...unfortunately it didn't last long I was like 6 and obviously had no idea how to take care of sw tank and neither did my parents. Ever since then I always said when I have the money and place to put one I would get a SW tank again...never thought I would end up with what I have now though ;D

anyway glad she is on board! I guess Im alone in my pain! LOL my wife thinks her FW parrot fish are the high point of fish to have! I like her fish and tank but I like the SW so much more. She'll get the itch at some point too then I'll really know what broke is!

Great 'what got me started' story!

It amazes me when I think how far the hobby has come in the last 20 years let alone 30 or so.

    Thanks for sharing!

And from such beginings... a beautiful reef tank. Ever think of doing a 3 or 4 gallon nano just for old times sake?

    Thanks for posting
