I have a 55 gallon tank. I have had a mandarin for around 7-8 months.
when I first got him he did not eat frozen but now he does and he also likes pellets
I just recently got a HOB fuge (in the last 3 weeks) but before then I did not have one and he seemed to be thriving.

definatly need atleast a 55g tank. if you do end up getting one( i hope you dont) some frozen foods that you can try are brine, mysis, blood worms, cyclopeeze, fish roe

I don't know if I can believe that or not.....I worked at a lfs for nearly 3 years and very few......i mean VERY FEW will eat frozen. I mean maybe 5 percent out of all of the mandarins that came through our store would eat frozen and a fish store can't just go order "frozen feeding mandarins". Maybe you got lucky, maybe your store has a supplier that no one else in the nation has access to but.......I am doubtful of that second one.

What, you need video. I just fed an hour ago. He ate 4 blood worms while I was watching. The store, WWW.aquatouch.com ,had five of them in the tank. I watched all five eat frozen brine and blood worms before I made my decision. As I have a 24 gal tank I wouldn't make an irresponsable purchase. Oh, and these are also aqua cultured fish. I'm sure you have a hard time believing that too.

i said i doubted that the store will not sell a mandarin that isn't feeding frozen. don't take offense. I've been around the business and know how it works. I don't doubt that you have one that is feeding on frozen and that's awesome. lucky draw for ya

This place won't even sell difficult corals to the public. Once you establish a rep with them they will order you stuff if they approve of your set up and water condition. They have a Harliquin Tusk there that has been there for 5 weeks and has'nt sold, not bc no one wants it, but bc not the right buyer wants it. Sorry, I thought you were doubting it ate frozen.;)

i didnt think mandarins could be bred in aquaria yet? lfs seems a bit shifty to me. but if you saw with your own eyes that the mandarins are on blood worms then i guess i can belive that. i just cant believe the aquacultured mandarin though.
