oh mine is super simple. I have 4 koralias in my 120. 2 x koralia 4's. One of those on each end of the tank and 2 x Korlia 3's. Both of those are on the back of the tank, in the middle, pointing to the corners. After racking my brain over this, this is what I decided to go with and has worked so far.

I would think that the flow would be the same at night as it is during the day but just in the opposite direction. I know tides rise & fall at different times each day. But I would like to hear more input from others who have wave makers now. These seem to give the most random effects.

I use a Natural Wave Multi-Cycle Pump Timer, At 30 second intervals
I have two 1050 koralia facing each other on each side on one 30 sec outlet. On the backside of my arch I have three 750 koralia blowing through my live rocks. Two outer ones on the other 30 second outlet. One in the middle on the one minute on/off outlet. There's a dial I can change the timing rate but I think I'm happy at 30 second intervals. I really want to save for mp40s... That may be awhile

I agree with not turning off powerheads unless it's with a wavemaker for random flow effects. FWIW, you can adjust the position and direction of multiple powerheads to achieve random currents without a wavemaker.

One major problem with reducing flow at night is that the balance between dissolved O2 and CO2 already changes enough to cause pH to drop; lowering the flow (the main source of gas exchange) can intensify that effect.

In my 55 I have 2 Koralia 1050s and 2 750s. One 1050 and 750 on each side of the tank. All are controlled by my Reef Angel, where both 1050s are on one wavemaker circuit and both 750s are on the other. Each circuit will be on and then off for a random time between 15-60 seconds. So at any given time I could have 500 (from my return pump), 2000, 2600, or 4100 GPH flow in the tank. I plan to get 2 MP10s in the future, but I think this is working out great for the time being.
