What could cause a ammonia and nitrite spike?

    I see. So I should continue the water changes until I get back to 0? Any advice with phosphates?

    As far as the phosphates are concerned, that will have to be answered by someone else. For a quick fix, you can fill a bag with Seachem Phosguard.

    My refugium eats the phosphates so fast that I never deal with that issue.
