Hey guys, I was wondering what do you think I could put in my 45g tall Reef Tank. The tank is only about a month and a half old, 18" t5 HO lighting system, and 40 lbs of live rock. I am looking to put a good variety of corals and fish in there.

    Current Stock:
    - (1)Blue Spotted Puffer
    - (2)Black Clown Fish

    Wants:
    - (1) Coral Beauty Angel Fish
    - Any suggestions

    hey, welcome to 3reef!

noticed that you want to add a CB and have a reef tank, just becareful they are a 50/50 shot as far as nipping at coral.

a cool add could be a marine betta. thats what i want to add to my 45 tall (once i can afford everything for it LOL)
check out this site, pretty good options:

Thats a really cool looking fish, that might be a possible add to the tank somewhere down the line. Do you think the CB would be okay in my reef tank if it is currently in a reef tank at my LFS? Or is there still the possibility of it nipping at my corals?

yeah also check out some reef safe wrasses. its hard to call, because they can be an angel (no pun intended here) for 2 years then one day just snap and start nipping. im not saying dont get the fish, just giving you aa heads up.

Marine betta's are reef safe in the sense they wont nip coral. They will however eat small fish, and inverts. The same potential is there for your puffer as well. Tank in mind the size of the betta as well, they can grow up to 8" thats pretty long for a tall tank.

everyone lately seems to panic when you say coral beauty. yes they are 50/50 but alot of people have them with success. I've had mine for like 3 months now without isssue. Sure it could snap and demolish things, but so could every other member of the tank. lol.

i would try a coral beauty, every coral beauty i have i have success with them not nipping anything. i would try it out and worst case scenario you take it back. no big deal. but your tank only a month old i would wait till it cycled COMPLETELY before adding anything else. also what type of fixture is that how many bulbs?

as far as a marine betta eating fish and shrimp, yes ornamental shrimp are at risk, but fish are not IMO unless they are already sick or rather slow moving. marine bettas, while retlated to grouper are EXTREMELY docile and people have actually lost there betta do to starvation because the other fish out compete it for food.

about the CB, i'm just warning him, IMO they seem to be the least likely to nip compared to other dwarf angels i've heard about.

a marine betta is only large enough to eat the tiniest fish but even if they are in the same tank i dont believe it will, they are not overly aggressive

I see you have a puffer in there. Puffers are not reef safe at all.
