Very sorry to see this. I agree with others about starting over with new sand and new rock. On a positive note, this will give you a chance to change all of the things that you wished you could have done differently if you had it to do all over again!

Keep your chin up and I am glad to see that you are going to start over. Too many times, people will take a disaster like this and throw in the towel...

    Good luck!

Sell the kid, and use the funds to buy new fish.

I'm pretty sure you can get a few grand for a rugrat these days. :)

Oh No.......Avon!! If your LR & sand are new/semi-new, I don't see why you can't just do some major water changes. Just make salt water. 50% water changes every 3 or so days until your water clears, then just let it sit & start testing again.

The easiest would be to start over. I have boiled LR in the past which will kill it. I would throw out the water and sand. Boil the LR for 10 mins and let fully dry and start over with new sand and just add some live bacteria to get it started again. You dont want to save that sand or water. Its best to start fresh without any problems.

That is unfortunate for everyone. I bet the child feels bad about it too.

I agree with Seabass1 and ANPGP. No reason you can't rinse the LR real well and add all new fresh saltwater. Check your params after several days, and do a 50% water change if needed. It takes a long time for the calcium carbonate structure (Live Rock) to lock in phosphates, so rinsing real well and then using all new saltwater should dilute whatever tiny amount is still in the holes/pores.
