    Howdy friends!

I am in the process of designing my first aquarium. It will have 100g capacity display.

My plan will use a 10g sump in which i will use the following:

    Protein Skimmer
    Fluidized Bed Filter
A simple form of non-biological filter media to remove large depris.
    Heater

This will be a reef tank so I will absolutly be using LR. i'm trying to cut down on live rock a little with the FBF.

Is there anything else that my sump crusially needs that I am overlooking?
Just wanna make sure I'm thinking of everything. :)

If i had a tank that big,i would go with a much larger sump and add a refugium.

get a bigger sump, you don't want to be topping off twice a day.

The fluidized bed filter probably isn't need unless you plan on running chemical filtration or biopellets in it.

    your missing powerheads and lighting.

    Cool!

Would having a 10g sump really make my water loss skyrocket?

since tanks are on a overflow system, all extra water is stored in the sump.

so you are having the evaporation of an 100 gallon tank happen to a 10 gallon one, plus you need to maintain appropriate water levels for your equipment like the skimmer. Although you could get a auto top off.

also I sincerely doubt you could fit the necessary equipment in the 10g.

+1 to Sostoudts words of wisdom. I would go with a 40 gal or so sump and use 1/3 to 1/2 of that for a fuge, specially if your going reef. You'll want to upgrade later on down the road if you go with a 10 gal IMO.

the bigger the sump the better... I would go with no less than a 30 gal sump... it's what mine is, though I wish it were bigger.

Yea.....I agree. the bigger the sump the better. I have a 55 gallon sump and it could still be bigger :) I would not go any smaller than a 30 and would push for up to a 55 IMPO.
