Hello all. I have a question on which package to buy. I have a 125 gal reef tank and I feel i need some more movement in there. I currently have 2 korollias and the return from my sump as flow goes. Here are the two package links and maybe some advice as to how to setup a wavemaker(placement of PH etc). Thanks in advance!

Which Koralias do you currently have? What GPH is your return pump?

I think they are 800 and the return is 2600 gph

I would just add another Koralia (or two smaller ones), TBH. You already have 33x flow (if your return isn't dialed back with a valve).

Those wavemakers you posted....I wouldn't exactly cal them a good buy. The MJ pumps that come with it are like $20 apiece alone, and I've never seen a proper wavemaker solo go for less than $150. The ones that are cheaper are all on/off, not true variable units.

I don't think 4 maxi jets could make a wave in your tank. i had to of the modded ones in my 90 and I doubt it would have made a wave. Also if you would mod all for of them you couldn't use em in the wave maher cuz they click so loud when you turn em on and off.

It is not necessarily a wave effect that is needed. It is kind of neat to watch, but not always the best movement in your tank. A chaotic flow pattern is much easier to achieve and is good for all coral types.

A couple more Koralias would go a long way toward helping. I just got another pair from Big Al's. They are cheap, and effective.

Get a couple of Koralia 1400's I have the K4's and like them, but the 1400's are very impressive, and are supposed to work well with wavemakers... you could always add the wavemaker later by adding a controller...

I recently got a vortech mp40 and got a nice wave going but am strting to wish I got a set of tunzes instead as I still have some dead spots. There is a lot more movement in most of my tank thigh then there was with the two maxijets though. When using the koralias on a wave maker aren't only some of them good for that. I think thy sell special dc ones and they come with the wavemaker part as that is what converts the ac to dc and and controls the wave...I could be wrong though.

My research done says that yes not all koralias can be used on a wavemaker system due to the loud startup.
