does anyone have the same problem as I do? I just mixed my water with salt and its super cloudy, until when will it be able to clear off? or is it i have to run it through the filter cotton first?

The salt doesnt dissolve instantly iforgotlah

it can take a few hours, sometimes 24 or longer depending on temp of water and means of circulation

is it a new tank? have you got powerheads running in there?

no powerheads in there. this is a new tank as i recently made an overflow compartment to the tank, thus all my other fishes are in my sump now. so my display tank water is new, just waiting for the cloudiness to lower down so i can just switch on my return pump to circulate the whole tank.

I would add a power head and a heater if possible, warmer water helps dissolve salt faster
and the circulation will also help

I'm kinda confused. Did you just add salt to your aquarium rather than mix it in a separate bucket and mix it? Is your sump running with a pump to your display tank? Is that pump plugged in? If so, then it doesn't matter where your fish are, they are in the same system.

His return pump is off - and I believe the water level in DT will be below the overflow at present

thus his fish etc are isolated at present

nono, fishes are in my sump. return pump is connected to the display tank, but not switched on yet. display tank was currently empty as i have just made a overflow section to the sump. fixed all my pipes and the return pump is ready to go. so i have made my salt+water in my display tank but it is not overflowing yet as i have not switched on the return pump.

That's awesome. Let it dissolve, test the specific gravity, adjust it and then kick on the pump.

How old is the salt? is it chunky or sandy? Also if your water was cold it needs to be heated. Also if you added the salt to fast (all at once) it could have precipitated the salt. It will clear up over night. I always use a heater and a powerhead with the venturi going to get some air in there.
