    What do you mean Jerry?
I can tell you avoid Rust Out pellets or anything geared towards thwarting Ironing stains... They WILL affect your water.

Water softners are Ca/Mg exchangers in all simplicity... They swap out Ca and Mg for Na.

I would stick with RO buddy

Excellent question! I've been wondering about this myself and did a little searching... Google turned up a forum called the reeftank that answered this question. They actually referenced finding the answer via a search on RC. The conclusion is that it is preferred to supply your RO/DI unit with water after the water softener. Using the softened water is apparently easier on your RO membranes and will extend their life.

looking at it from a technical side... Mg is larger than Na SO since a membrane will "clog" with the either, the latter would be easier on it... from how i see it.

Thanks for responding. Makes sense. I will be hooking up after the softner.

RO membranes love water softeners, they do much of the work for them! Kind of like a prefilter.
If you notice every membrane manufacturer recommends softened water in their literature, its in fine print at the bottom but its there.

I'd never noticed that before, now I'll have to look.
