I just put on the nova extreme t5 light fixture and noticed that over the weekend my water level dropped about an 1". Im just wondering what i can do to fix this problem. The tank does not have a leak. And i was just going to see if there might be another reason for the water loss than just the light.

Most likely evaporation. Just topoff with freshwater and enjoy the lights!

    Yup, evaporation. Plain and simple.

Yep, evaporation. Not much you can do. But its completely normal. I lose about a gallon and a half a day, 3 gallons per day during the summer

Do you guys think if would make and put an acrylic hood on top, that it might slow it down a little?

Sure, but I prefer glass over plastic.

Yes, but hoods can cause a lot of different problems, far outweighing the benefits of less evaporation.

hoods can cause heat to build up and hinder gas exchange. those are the two 'biggies' I am aware of.

    I don't use a hood though - never have.
