This is probably a newbie question were some will roll there eyes :p

when I added my two clowns 2 weeks ago I added water conditioner/ slime coat additive. I also added it to the water again on a water change. My ph is only 8.0 and calcium is low 350. Does this product actually decrease ph and calcium?
Also should I counter balance with baking soda?

I have never been one to use a Slime coat treatment. I ONLY use Prime. http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Prime.html but if you are using Ro/Di water, there is no need for any additives except salt in my experience.

what does your overall tank look like? your PH is good, but Ca is low if you have alot of corals. you could try just adding a calcium to it to boost that. I have never heard of those types of additives dropping your CA.

    Thank you :)
I don't add it with ro water - only when I did my first big wc and added the clowns. I don't have any coral yet other then hitchhikers (mushroom ect)

you dont need to add it except when removing clorine or if you have an ammonia or nitrite issue and need to render it non toxic.

I believe Prime is also a slimecoat conditioner as well. Actually I'm 100% positive it is. However, unless your not using RO water than using a product such as Prime or another type of water condition is perfectly fine. A fellow reefer in my area has an SPS dominant tank and has been using tap water with a water conditioner since the beginning about 3 years ago. Those additives should not adversely affect the calcium or PH of the water. You should check your other parameters for a solution.
