so my tds meter leading to my RO membrane reads 80ish you know how it like to change and coming out of my RO membrane going into my DI canister is 130-150

should i replace the RO membrane its only 6 months old i thought they lasted longer. i ran it for about 10 mins and still no change

or should i buy the back wash system and do that?

where is your source water coming from? city or well?

I have well water and I'm lucky if my RO membrane ever makes it longer than 6 months, personally I would try changing the membrane first.

well water has a lot of sediment in it as I'm sure you know and tends to be on the hard side, unfortunately membranes don't last very long when they are filtering well water

change the membrane and I'll bet your TDS gets better

    so did I :/

Water starts to get expensive when you have to change the membrane every 6 months but...

ITS FOR OUR FISHY FRIENDS!!! :)

ok well, on well water how oftern should i replace the DI, Carbon, and RO.

also do you think it will hurt my tank much (its still cycling and has a good 6 months before i put coral in it) if i use my water comeing out of the RODI that is reading roughly 20 right now, for a month till i get the RO membrane and DI resin in
mind you i went with spectrapure so its a tad more expensive but i want quality

for me I have the color changing DI resin and I just keep an I on that so far I've been having to change it about every 5 to 6 months right along with the membrane, once that membrane starts to let stuff get past it the DI goes really quick

I have two sediment filters in my basement inline with my house water and then on the RO system I have a sediment filter then the carbon and then another sediment filter then the RO and DI, the Carbon only removes chemicals from the water it doesn't really help with the hardness and the sediment but I've been changing all the pre-filters right along with the membrane just to play it safe.

right after changing I'd start with roughly 0 tds it maybe 1 but nothing horrible, around 3 months I'm usually at around 5 or 6, DI is starting to change color but still has life in it, then at 6 months it shoots up to around 110-120 and DI is wasted

some folks get lucky and have "cleaner" well water than others but it all depends on how deep your well is, mine is 500 feet down so I get A LOT of sediment, its about time for me to change my filters in my basement, I'll take some pictures and show you just how bad it is lol

so ill just change it every six months, i mean my TDS isnt as bad as 120 comeing out its sitting at 20-30
i dont have the money to do a whole home filtration system, just the one for the tank.
i think FL wells are a little cleaner and have a higher ph since its a shell based, idk never done the research into it just what i was told when i got a quote for putting in a whole home filtration system

hell with the way they are moving i will be on city water soon enough, they are trying to put everyone on it.

What is your well/tap water TDS? RO only TDS before the DI? and final RO/DI TDS?
What is your water pressure and water temperature?
What is your exact measured waste ratio?
Do you know if you have CO2 in your well water? If not you can test or estimate it and its effects here.
    FAQ FOR REVERSE OSMOSIS

Don't waste your money on flush kits or color changing resins, the flush kits are worthless and color changing resins are very inaccurate.

If you can supply the information above it will help find your issues.

Your RO membrane should last 3-5 years or longer if you keep the sediment and carbon block filters changed and use good replacements. The sediment and carbon are dependent on your incoming water condition but should easily last 6 months no problem even in silty conditions. The DI should last hundreds of gallons or more as long as you don't have CO2 issues. Even with CO2 there are things you can do to help the situation.
