I hope this is the right section for this question, but I just started my sw tank, and its open top, as water evaporates, should I just let it go untill 10-25% is evaporated and then begin to mix new water to add back in? its only a 10 gallon.

    only fresh water evaporates
all of the salt, ions etc stay in the tank

so you top off with fresh water and not salt water - RODI is best

and dont wait until to much evaporates

top up every day at least once per day (I do twice) so as not to allow the SG to increase to much and then decrease to much when I top off

salt does not evaporate at appreciable rate. You add fresh water back to replace evaporation.

Evaporation does not count as a water change, just like salt doesn't evaporate neither do the other things you want to remove.

Water changes consist of you personally removing water, then replacing it with new saltwater.

Everything Steve and sostoudt told you is true. Use fresh water to top off any evaporation your tank has and stay on top of it.
