OK so if you had a 125 gallon tank how much of a water change in gallons and how often? once a week every other week. I am thinking a 6 gallon every week on the same day and at night. Once the tank is done cycling there will be 6 fish medium to small and lots of stuff [ coral zoas mushrooms ]. Thanks in advance.

I change 10% weekly and I feel that this is a decent benchmark. In this hobby its certainly never “once size fits all”. It all depends on your water quality, tank load and maintenance. Provided your tank does well and the water checks out pristine – than your changes are perfect for your set up.

OK I like the 10% weekly so If you have 125gal and you have a 100lbs dry rock and 90 lbs of sand how much water do you have?

the rule of thumb is 10% once a week.

If your tank is new I would not stray from that, and keep testing. As you change things and add things watch your levels and watch your tank. You will start to learn your tank and how things look when your water is perfect and you will see how they react when your water is not so perfect.

Once your tank is established and going good then you can fiddle with it and see what works for you and your tank.;)
