so i desperately need to do a water change but ive got a problem. ive been so busy lately that i havent had time to go out anf buy any water. so how bad do you think it would be if i used tap water to do a water change? is it going to affect my tank if i do it just once? am i going to see algae growth from just one water change? ahhh im so worried!! im still kinda new to this whole saltwater hobby.

Nobody can say with any certainty owow

we never know exactly what is in tapwater from 1 week to the next IMHO
Many people have used it without issues
many other people would not use it for wiping reef tank equipment down

Depends on a number of things. How clean is your tap water? How much will you change? You may see some algae growth short term if there are silicates in the water, however, I used tap water for a year or so in my reef and my fish and coral were fine, I just had a whole lot of algae. Short answer, it wouldn't be an issue unless you have very dirty tap water.

In the time it will take to get the answers your looking for you could go and get the rodi water and get it changed. At this point 24hrs probably won't make a difference unless you have stressed inhabitants from toxic nitrate levels. JMHO;)

The quality of the water in your tank means everything, that can't be promised with tap.
