How often should I change the water in my quarantine tank, and what percentage should I change each time? It is 10 gallons, with a sponge filter, aquaclear 20 filter, and a media bag of active carbon. Currently there is 1 small ocellaris clown in it.

Are you treating the fish with meds?

No meds. Just observing, since I just bought the fish 2 days ago. I was told to keep new fish in QT for 3 weeks for observation.

I've quarantined all my fish for 1 month in a 10 gallon prior to being placed into my tank. I changed out 2 gal each week. I also used Amquel+ about every other day. I don't know what the proper procedure is on this, but all of my fish survived this method fine. Ocellaris clowns are pretty hardy and I've read that people use them to cycle a tank. That are not necessarily used that often for that purpose because they cost a lot more than a typical damsel.

I disagree. I would do it every 4,321 minutes instead. That extra minute is there to account for procrastination.

I agree with packleader and bogie, depending on the breakdown of 3 days. I had a mini cycle when I added a sixline wrasse to my QT and had to change out 2g on my 5g QT for two days, then the system adjusted and I went to about every 2 days because of the small 5g size. My filter floss is kept in DT sump for seeding before adding to QT, still have to watch for ammo. and nitrite spikes for a couple days when I add a new fish to QT

Hmmm, ok, so I will try the 3 day 20%. I only asked the question because I wondered whether, with all the filtration and bag of carbon, whether changes are needed very frequently, or only as needed (as per my ammonia/nitrite/nitrate tests).

The filtration helps, but your doing water changes because the lack of bacteria in the qt,as it has not cycled, so ammonia, nitrites will build up.
