wake calls to end all wake up calls

so i am comfortly laying in bed, when from the other room i hear scream..."there is water on the floor!! your tank in leaking!!" at that point i come flying out of bed and appear in front of the tank. In my mind i see my DT half full critters on the floor or floating in the tank. once i arrive at the tank I find only a gal or two on the floor. But there seems to be no reason why there is water on the floor. after cleaning and futher investiation i find that the water is coming from my hang on protien skimmer...the interal piping that connects to the pump is broke off from it threads that connect it to its external counter part had broken off. this let the water leak out all over the floor, and cause the g/f to scream me out of bed. it looks like i now have work to do when i get off work....hooray!

didnt have time to cry, i had to jump into action!! however, after i figured out what the problem i had a good cry...

 

Oh yeah.....water on the floor. That has happened to me a couple of times. One time is actually was a tank leak!!!! That was a bummer.

 

it was this hang on skimmer/refugium, i believe it was an oddessy. i got it from aquatraders.com and oddessy seems to be the majorty, if not the only, brand they sell. i got "upgraded" cause they didnt have just the skimmer. Its one of the square hang on skimmer

 

i could see where that would be and issue. was it high up on the tank?
before i found the leak, i had a theory that it was the sump sealent had failed. but i have this two part epoxy that you kneed together it seals under water. but i dont think it would be safe while it cured...
