Hey from what i have seen, the SmartWave looks to only control 2 pumps.

Honestly I would just go with a controller. My wave making is being done with Z-Wave modules and controlled by my home automation system for now. Until my controller comes in.

CJ, it has 2 plugs, but you can chain link the pumps together. So he could have 1 small pump and one bug pump, in one outlet...then one big pump and one small pump in the other outlet.

Isn't the smartwave, just another on/off timer? From what I have read I don't see how it is much different than their current wave controller, or a Reefkeeper, or Apex etc... Not that it won't work, I think you can have a fine reef with such a controller, but that dosn't mean it's in the same league as an MP40.

4 pumps in a 40 breeder will not be pretty and will eat up a lot of real estate.

    MP-40 or (2) MP-10s

A reefkeeper and a apex are controllers. The smartwave is a wavemaker just like a wavemaker pro, in essence yes a glorified timer.

Controllers are a lot more advanced and can control and monitor your whole aquarium setup. Of course at a much higher cost.

Yeah, I meant if you have a controller already. The controller certainly can act as a wavemaker though, I use mine as such, in addition to an MP40, but no simple wavemaker comes close to the MP40 for function. Also, the MP40, provides MUCH wider flow than koralis, and produces a strong undertow, which you don't get with Koralis, which is something else to consider. I don't think an MP40 is necessary, but it does provide benefits; you do get what you pay for...

With hydor EVOs, you could use just about any wave timer though, it dosn't need to be a controller. As far as timers go, the new one does look good.

There are a lot of others though, but other than the Tunze, these also are not comparable to an MP40. For example:

    JBJ Ocean Pulse Wavemaker

    Aquarium Systems Natural Wave Wavemaker
