The 40 Breeder is still in its layout and planning stage, and came across a thread about Hydor's new wavemaker. Thought it was a cool idea and I can have a lot of flexibility.

My initial idea was to get one MP40 for the whole tank, but thought I could use multipe Korillas of different sizes to get some random flow.

I am thinking of maybe 5 Korillas, 2 large and 3 small ones. One would be in the fuge for flow, the others will be in the display. there would be a large and small on both sides of the tank but instead of having one side going at a time, have it so that the large on one side will go with a small on the other, and vise versa.

Sounds like a good idea and will come out to about the cost of a MP40. I can also position the Korillas where ever I want as opposed to having a fixed spot.

    Thoughts?

I would definitely wait for the SmartWave to come out...should be this August, sometime. MSRP of $60. I will be buying one for my 29g which has 3 koralia 425s.
I really like your idea with the two different sized pumps and running them opposite of each other. That should be really nice.

I think that using different sized pumps will give much better results. I might get 2-550's, a 750, a 1050, and a nano for the fuge. Should give some great flow. Then add the $60 for the unit itself and I believe it is maybe $40 less than an MP40. Haha

Looking at like 11 watts for the displays flow, then add maybe 60 watts for two Kessils I'm looking to get eventually. And the roughly 80 watts in the sump, wthout the heater. I'm planning around the idea of low power consumption and low initial start.

haha. I'm not sure how you figure that came to $400, but ok. :p Even 4 of the Koralia 1400s is like $240...Mp40 is something like $440?

Haha wow.. My math was way off there starting with what I thought an MP40 costed. lol Let's see, 2 -550, a 750, and a 1050, and the unit is roughly $260. And compare that to the corrected $440 price tag of the MP40. Haha

And probably take off another $50 or so because Korillas like to go on sale a lot! Lol Maybe another $10 for some random coupon code I will stumble across and use.

$200 for a whole wave system! Haha With that I can get 2 whole systems! Or one MP40!

Haha I think I will go with the Hydor system. Just a lot more options, positioning, flow direction, flow rates, and such. And with the money saved can go into the second Kessil light.
