You can prob speed it up if you use more vinegar but I'm not usually in a rush. When I clean out tanks I do about a 10:1 ratio and let it run for about 2 weeks-That usually all my wife can take of the vinegar smell and tells me do some thing with it or she'll let the water out herself.

I usually just use straight vinegar lol. Sometimes I will use a 1:1 ratio of vinegar to water. It may take a little more rinsing to remove it all but I don't really have a place to let something soak in vinegar (I live in an apartment with a roommate). With straight vinegar I barely even have to let it soak. I have never had a problem. The vinegar is gone when the equipment longer smells lol.

I usually just put some tap water in a bucket and just pour vinegar in there lol. I usually let it soak for an hour or so then clean and rinse really good lol.

I use it undiluted. Think about it, its the low pH of the vinegar that does the work, when you dilute it you raise the pH which makes it less effective.
I buy it by the gallon at WalMart so its very inexpensive. I use what I need in a small bucket then straing it through a paint filter or paper towels right back into the bottle with a funnel and it gets reused over and over for up to a year before the pH is such that it is no longer effective. I then pour it down the drain and start with a fresh gallon.
