About the 2x400 watt MH, I too planned to go this route but Otty recommended three MH due to the cross braces moulded to the top of the tank rim. There is a possibility of the braces melting i guess.

    Just food for thought. ;)

This tank has just one center brace. Thats why i'm doing two 400's instead of 3 250's.

The bottom of this tank is made of tempered glass so I can't drill it. I am going to make my own durso's.

I would go with the 3 and as for the center brace if the fixture is at a proper height the brace will not be noticed at all with a M/H Its just like a shadow on the wall If your hand is back lite and close to the wall the shadow in sharp and dark but pull your hand back a foot and its not so shadowed anymore . I have 3 on this 90 with a center brace and you can not see the shadow at all .

Ok, started building my durso style stand pipes tonight.

Got a bunch of parts at Lowes:

    Two lengths of pipe - 1" and 1 1/4":

Couldn't find the street ell or street 90 so I had to use a regular elbow. On the left is how it would have been but on the right is how it is once I cut the fittings down a little.

And, here is a little idea of how it will look minus the length of pipe between the parts since I don't have the length of pipe figured out yet.

    right on. Nice update Veedub.
I just plumbed mine together. I thought I had an idea of plumbing parts until I got to hardware store, then they dont have what a guy needs and trying to figure it out laying parts on the store floor to comprimise.

Looking forward to seeing it put together

Why drill lower rather then higher?
Cant wait to see more progress.

Not quite sure what you mean. But, I would want it drilled lower that way theres less pipe on the backside edge of the tank. Looks nicer in my living room.

Ok, got one of the two standpipes finished up. I'm happy with the results too.
