I have a BC29HQI and I'm looking for a UV Sterilizer that will fit well in my tank. The UV Sterilizer made by Oceanic, specifically for the BC is garbage. The wattage isn't nearly enough to efficiently insure your tank. Oceanic's UV light provides only 5 watts of power.

According to Drs Foster & Smith, I need much more wattage than that...see chart here: http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/pic/article.cfm?acatid=423&aid=440

Seeing that the BC29 stock pump circulates approx ~250GPH, I would need a UV Sterilizer with almost 40 watts (to control parasites in the right column of chart).

    Which product would you recommend?

40 Watts is alot for that small of a tank. I have that on my 225 and thats not enough for it either but it does get the job done. I would do the next level up from the Oceanic UV because that can still fit in the return chamber.

its not just wattage that plays a factor. its contact time with the light. flow rate all that. each one has its own specks. and should be followed. I have a 8 watt on my tank. http://www.aquacave.com/Manuals/AquaUV-Classic-Twist-Series-UV-Manual.pdf specks on page 8... see how different the specks are. its a long unit and allows more contact time. that some of the other 8 watts sold dont.
I never quarantine fish and feel the uv is whats saving me from trouble.
i recently had a anthias jump and take a ride in the cats mouth. well the cat left 2 holes in the fish. i put the fish back in the tank and he healed. i truly believe without a uv that fish would have got a bacterial infection and died.
i have also recently read in aquarium fish international uv sterilizers kill the bacteria in the water that causes that infection people get on there hands thats so nasty looking.

If you ran a 15 watt (the lowest watteage to kill parasites according to the chart) then you'd need to run no more than 75gph through it to kill the waterborn parasites plus of course algae and bacteria, since those requre less wattage.
So you can tee your return pump so some goes through the UV or buy a separate small pump to run the UV.
