I'm using the LR (cured) as my cycle media. I put the LR in two days ago. How long before the cycle begins. This morning I tested and following are the results:

    pH: 7.8
    SG: 1.023
    Salinity: 31
    Ammonia: 0.25
    Nitrite: 0
    Nitrate: 0

    Thanks in advance.

with cured rock you may only get a mini cycle with not a huge ammonia spike unless there is some die off (depends how long the rock was exposed to the air prior to you putting it in your tank) I short cycled my 75g tank with 130lbs of live rock and had barely any ammonia spike and it was completely cycled in a week. I put in my cleanup crew a week after the rock and I haven't had any of the algae blooms that others talk of....we are now 3 months in and no problems.......fingers crossed......

    Hi Adnuces.

The rock was exposed to air for a total of 90 minutes. That's how long it took me to bring it home from the LFS, rinse and place.

I'll keep an eye on the test results in the coming week.

    Thanks again.

    Readings this morning:

    pH: 7.8
    NH3: 0
    NO2: 0
    NO3: 0

Tank is going on its 4th day with the LR (cured) in it.

When will the ammonia rise? Will it rise at all seeing that the LR is cured? Am I ready for my first fish?

    Thanks.

I started a 15 gal last year with cured lived rock and in a week was stocking my tank, every thing was a 0 in a week, but had an algea bloom the diatom, cyno and a little green algea and the cyno comes back alittle now and then.

Just keep an eye on your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and if it drops down to 0 for all,try a couple snails and see how they do for a week, but keep on checking your water quality. If every thing is at 0, then your good to go, but stock slowly let the system catch up with you load.
