using a powerhead for "nightly cleaning cycle"

    But its not all readily assimilated food. Much of it is sediment or particulates that have no nutritional value. Makes no sense to me?

    Different strokes for different folks :)

    Our powerhead runs for about 3 hours from 2a.m. to 5 a.m.

    Have I mentioned the stirred stuff also has increased its time in suspension and my skimming has performed much better..

    I have two area’s that collect, my refugium’s final stage and my sump – years back on an older forum Tangster told me to stir it up and feed the corals….been doing it ever since. I have a small EchTech Vortech on a timer in my sump that runs for 30 minutes on a pulse setting every night at midnight. I manually stir the refugiums final stage area every now and again when I think of it.

    My main concern is for nutrient control. i liked the idea of keeping stuff floating so that my skimmer can get them. as far as "feeding coral" it was just kind of a added bonus.

    i dont want to go the filter sock route cause im trying to keep maintenance down

    Lots of filter feeders eat particulate organics.
