Well when it comes to supplementing, im gona add some tiny rocks on the substrate of my current tnak that has coralline algae on it. even the corals bought will have some form of organisms on them. even i might transfer some tunicates coz i love those guys. also might supplements some live plankton for feather dusters. so i guess eventually my tank will have everything thats safe and not the pests. i hate those plants growing in my reef tank. even the plants will go in my refuge later. also once established after a year or so, ill add some pods and feed them plankton. this is how ill plan...... its gona take time and patience but i dont mind.....

I'd be worried the amount of booze in my "ammonia" would sterilize the water hahaha

Just tell someone else to put a raw shrimp in a media bag so you don't have to look at it... Please don't pee in your tank....

i just get amazed when people have trouble with human urine but not the occupants in there tank every live thing in your tank uses the restroom my tangs look like b-17 bombers over there target, come on now you should not worry about your own urine its already with through filtration its good as gold compaired to other things we comsume or get on ours hands the truth is human urine works great to cycle fish and reef tanks to me it is much better than letting something rot and decay in there.;)

I'm not scared of pee, I just wouldn't want it in my tank. There's alot more than just ammonia in pee. Plus if water splashes into my mouth... My hands are in the tank.... I mean why do it when there's a plethora of other options?

Urine is not ammonia, it's urea. Ammonia forms after bacteria starts breaking the urea down.

Urine is an aqueous solution of greater than 95% water, with the remaining constituents, in order of decreasing concentration urea 9.3 g/L, chloride 1.87 g/L, sodium 1.17 g/L, potassium 0.750 g/L, creatinine 0.670 g/L and other dissolved ions, inorganic and organic compounds.

As for cycling with fish not hurting anything...Fish Disease - Ammonia Poisoning

If you don't want ammonia poisoning, why should a very small fish have to suffer from it?

Same here, i hate cycling tank with a fish.... its just too dam cruel.... the idea about urine was just an option to ammonia chloride powder, nothing else. i am wondering that many people have never heard of it who are into reefing since so many years..... i hate my current tank only coz of the amount of pests that came along and also some plants that just keep growing every where even on the wave makers. Mr.saltwatertank also uses dead rock and sand and many other people. but they cycle tank using fish but personally i hate that. id rather wait for it to cycle coz patience is free and wont kill or torture someone (fish). ill add a few chromis or clowns once the ammonia and nitrite are 0 and nitrate is slowly coming down. rest all can be supplemented to make the rocks and sand live......

Keep your mouth closed and wear gloves while working in tank. :)

You missed the point- your own urine will be the proverbial drop in a bucket once you add livestock. Everything in there has nowhere else to "go".

Sushi, while I know the plan used to be for the fish to suffer serious unpleasantness, I don't think anyone wants to go back to that. The point though is that through the use of careful testing, bacterial additions, lots of water changes, lots of filtration, and very controlled feelings, a tank can be cycled without ever spiking toxic levelsofammonia or nitrite (which is usually throne that causes the poor fish's untimely demise).

I hated killing or harming the poor damsel when I was told to do it back in the 80s and quickly came up with a new plan. We all kill stuff accidentally all the time, but intentionally making its life miserable seemed unnecessary.

That all said, I'm a terrible hijacker, apologize profusely, and will be happy to continue this discussion elsewhere.
