Yeah UPS says we're so big we don't need to give you much of a discount. FedEx is still catching up using the old RPS system.

Just pointing out: a couple companies have giant lobster holding facilities at the UPS hub in Louisville. If they say "no more livestock", they're going to lose a giant portion of their express business just from that.

Well that sucks to hear the corals died, but it's good they refunded the money and your getting new ones. People bad mouth one shipper or the other, but it seems that every shipper occasionally has issues, which is to be expected. I do wonder if there is some sort of meta analysis of percentages or numbers of packages lost/damaged compared ot the various shipping methods.

Also, Blackraven, I don't really get what your point is? Even if UPS states liability is on the shipper for livestock that is shipped, the point is they paid for their mistake. All is even in the world. Also, the money isn't necessarily paid from all other people's insurance. Many shipping methods, insurance is included to a certain amount, no extra charge, or the charge is built in. I'm just not sure where you were heading with your comments?

I would bet there is, most companies have something on their on time percentages.

I agree also on the companies having failures. It appears that my number is coming up lately to even out the odds.

If they're required to compensate for environmental impact, dead lobsters would still trigger that donation; they might consider getting rid of fish shipments altogether, but that's likely a decent portion of their express business, given the sizes and weights aren't typical of other uses of express.

Also, if they get out of the business, others will step in to it, as our economy is kinda designed for just that purpose: to allow people to seize opportunities that other companies pass up.
