Yes, a guess is better than a crapshoot. But you have to take into account the lower graph of efficiency, especially past the point where they cutoff; all their numbers have a fairly steady efficiency, but it plummets past 45 watts. Conveniently, the upper graph cuts off at a 50 watt load.

I want an APC. I think I killed my last one. It was in my fathers office though so I think it had some abuse. It would give me time to get home and set up my generator. Keep us posted on the stats please.

I believe the ratings in VA mean VAh, or VA hours. This would be the same thing as Watt-hours because W=V*A

Ah, the confusion of UPS sizes.. hehe.. It all depends what you are trying to power & for how long. I tried to power my 170W return pump with a SmartUPS 650 & thought my UPS was going to blow & my pump made a loud noise, as to it was being under powered. I have a conversion sheet that I recieved from APC, just trying to see where I put it. Let me find the online version.

As for powering a powerhead or mag 7 no problem.

Well, even at 9 watts that UPS is still at 71% efficiency, so it will run a looooooooooong time. I have a Cyberpower 525SL (330 watts) hooked up to my return pump. Running a 45 watt Mag 5 return pump on it, I gave up after 45 minutes of run time. It still had juice left in it, but I had run out of patience, so I don't know exactly how much was left. I now use a Mag 3 so the run time will be even longer. Typical power outage where I live is 10-15 minutes, so 45 minutes was fine. I also tried a 4 watt Koralia K1. After 4 1/2 hours (I left and came back as I knew it would last at least 5 times longer than the return pump trial run), it was still running. Again, way more time than the typical power outage in my area. And again, I have no idea how much battery run time was left, but frankly I didn't care. Where I live the outage lasted more than 2 hours twice in the last 20 years.
