ive had a 30g for about 7months or so and i just acquired a 75g. before transferring everything over, i want to drill the tank.

i believe rule of thumb is 10x turnover through the return? would one 1" drain and 3/4" return suffice? im open for suggestions, im in no rush to transfer everything and want to make the 75g look sleek/clean.

10x is higher than a lot of people run, I think I see most commonly between 5x and 10x. a 1" overflow and 3/4" return is fine for a 75g IMO. I'm doing more like 5x on my new 75. I don't see much reason for having more flow through the sump than your skimmer can process, it's just wasted electricity on your return pump.

If you're really not in a hurry I would look up the "Herbie Method" of setting up an overflow/drain, it's pretty much ideal but does require a little more work and plumbing.
