OK..finally i did end up using play sand and here's brand I used. I don't think it's 100% silica free because when I did vinegar test not all sand dissolved so sand do have some silica.

so far no issues noticed in fact I see less algae growth after moving away from CC. But it's too early to tell anything will watch for another month or so and test parameters. will attach pics tomorrow.

It's a bit more expensive but this is great sand.... I have 75lbs of the fine sand in my tank. I love it but will probably use the coarse on my next tank.

UPDATED - Bad experience with Silica Sand !!

I just wanted to share how bad idea it was using "cheap" playsand from HD . Within two weeks of adding play sand, entire sandbed filled with diatoms..I have at least 20 CUC but they are uncontrollable..I am pretty sure this is due to silica sand which feeding algae growth.

Going to take down tank this weekend and replace entire silica sand with aragamax. Is there anything else I need to take care, replacing silica sand with aragamax will make sure diatoms won't appear again? replacing sand is big pain, unfortunately I have to do it twice :(:(

If anyone ever want to know what "cons" of silica sand, then my tank wil lbe good example. Petsmart has great deal 14$ for 30lb caribsea dry aragonite aragamax sugar sized and bought 60lbs. they have deal until christmax
