Agreed. Also many impellers and screws are stainless.

stainless steel still corrodes with saltwater...just at a slower rate than carbon steels

My pumps have ceramic shafts and I replaced the screws with nylon screws. My powerheads have metal shafts and I constantly have to replace them after they corrode.I've been trying to find carbon fiber shafts their size but havent yet.

Had the same problem with a new Rio pump and hose. Those plastic "clamps" in this situation are pretty much useless.
I thought about the zip ties but never thought you could torque them down that much. Good thread.....I'll give it a try too. I'm gonna research the stainless thing and see what I find.

I have these and they work pretty good.

There is stainless steel and then there's stainless steel. I wouldn't put a metal hose clamp in the water that's not designed for the trade.

    Cheaper grade stainless will rust.

As far as man made reefs it's hard to compare that since it's not an enclosed system like an aquarium. The current just takes the iron away and spreads it throughout the whole ocean.

    +1 to everything here.

I wouldn't trust metal, especially the cheap stuff they use on hose clamps.
