I am thinking of getting a Oceanic Mini Ultraviolet Sterilizer for more filtration in my biocube. Is a good idea to get one or don't waste my money on it.

    Welcome to 3reef

You will find opinions on both sides and most likely quite strong. If it gives you piece of mind then do it. Many don't use them and just as many will swear by them. I suggest doing as much research as you can and add that to the info you get here.

i have heard that UV sterilizers are for the most part a waste of time. From what i have heard they need to be cleaned religously in order to work correctly. Again, this is just what i have heard from others, i have no hands on experience with them.

IMO for a FOWLR a UV is good idea so I use one in mine (Aqua Ultraviolet). But I dont use one in my Reef as I dont want to kill anything that is beneficial to the reef but many ppl choose to run one and they have great results.
For such a small system I would not worry about a UV and spend that money on something else (or save it :p). my 2 cents.

i cant say about the oceanic uv. all uv are not the same. contact time the light has with the water is important, i feel uv's are a plus in any tank. but thats not a subject that all agree on.
