Hopefully your hot water heater runs on gas. You can fill hot water bottles and float them in the tank to help keep the heat up. also wrap your tank in blankets for insulation. Getting O2 to the tank can be the biggest problem. If you don't have a battery operated air pump at least stir the water by hand as often as you can.

what mike said. The best thing you can do without power is to use battery powered air stones to keep the O2 up, and wrap the tank in blankets. Also, that hot water bottle idea sounds cool, I had never heard of that before. So yeah, use blankets, hot water bottles (if you can), and battery airstones (or stir the water), and you should last a good chunk of hours with no problems. If you don't have airstones, another tip is to use a large cup and pour the tanks own water back into it. It helps circulate things a bit and I'm sure it helps gas exchange in some way (although it might be a small way). Good luck!

Fish and some inverts will survive alot more than you'd think. It's the corals that might pose a problem. We have at least 5 battery airstones  one for each mantis tank and 3 for the 46 (2 in display and 1 in sump).

:laugh5: if only it were that easy... Reading your location, a blizard in arizona or palm springs sounds bizarre! well keep us informed. Youve got the most (and best) advice you can as far as this issue is concerned. Good luck

And imo, otty says it best :) Not that that helps at all, but a generator can be very useful. Expecially in arizona or california

Depending on the size and bioload in the tank, you should be good for at least a couple of hours (4-5), the good news is with the lights out, your fish should go to sleep, so that will conserve O2. My tank went without power for about 5 hours with no problem what so ever. I know of tanks that went without power for 8+ hours with no problem. Just take the advice of the other posters and you should be fine.

I have to agree. I see these no power threads all the time. For some funds are tight but this is one investment I can't see anyone doing without.

You can get one for 200 at walmart.. I dont like walmart, I think its an evil corporation, but sometimes when things are that cheap there I jump..
It also comes in handy for other stuff while not using it for the tank.
