They are OK but you can do better. For the same $149 you could have the ProPlus from Spectrapure which comes standard with a dual inline TDS meter and inline pressure gauge plus has a batch tested RO membrane and DI resin custom blended for reefing applications.

I do not like the way AWI is leading people on with their carbon filters either. Many of the well established name brand RO/DI vendors and manufacturers use a single high quality carbon and testing has shown one carbon block is more than sufficient when dealing with chloramines at normal municipal drinking water levels of 2 mg/L or less. True, ebay quality systems with no name and no micron rated carbons would have trouble but a good Matrikx 1 micron or less carbon is not even breaking a sweat.

Its actually the DI you need to be paying attention to not the carbon. Ammonia passes through the carbon and RO membrane so you need the best DI you can afford to remove the ammmonia portion not the chlorine portion which the carbon removes.

The only advantage the Typhoon has is it comes with an Autoshutoff valve but those are $8-$12 items most places.

I have the Typhoon you ask about. I've had it for more than a year and it works very well.

I have the T3, I bought it for the clear vertical resin chamber, makes it easy to see when resin needs to be replaced. I also bought it because AWI is close to me and shipments arrive quickly. Best customer service ever, I have not dealt with other filter folks but as customer service in general goes, I ask for something and don't even get a response, just a mail man knocking at the door the next day holding what I need.

+1 on the SpectraPure ProPlus 90gpd unit for $149. I just got mine last week, very nicely built, all the bells & whistles (pressure gauge & dual TDS meters). Their customer service has been amazing and I'm super happy I chose them for my first RO/DI unit.
