So I have decided to go with the tunze silence for my return pump. I love the size and the reviews are great. Only problem is I am torn on the 3 models. I have a megaflow 1" drain rated at 600gph( i know that is under perfect conditions) and the return is a 3/4" bulkhead. I am leaning towards the Tunze silence 1073.050(792gph) just to have options later on if I want to branch off of this pump. This pump can control the amount of flow but not too sure how much it can be turned down. Would this be too much pump for my system. Should I settle for the 1073.040(792gph but with less control over flow) or even the 1073.020(634gph)

The tank is a 65aga RR draining into a 29g sump.

    Thanks!!

Do not get the smaller pump. There should be a GPH/Head chart on the pump somewhere. As head pressure increases, the output decreases. Try to find one that is slightly larger than what your head actually is, then use a ball/gate valve to dial it back to perfection.

IMO you want to avoid having to use a valve to throttle the pump back. Using a smaller pump on your system can easily be supplemented with the use of PH's. I really see no need to go for a huge pump as flow through the sump is not a priority( for the most part). Tinkering with a valve to keep from having a flood is dangerous IMO.;)
