hi everyone, i"m guessing i should be posting this here as its not a mega asap emergency, more for advice i think. ive had this sebae anemone for a couple of weeks now.
i was originally very worried(hence the post in asap forum), but now im more baffled than anything.basically every couple of days or so i think the anemone is dying, as its goes very small/pal,sometimes excreting mucus which is dark brown/reddish,sometimes excreting what it ate the day before, which is normally mysis/shrimp.. then, usually by the next morning he is fine as if nothing was wrong!!??
i have only two clowns,so i guess theres no problem there. my water parameters all seem fine(coral etc all happy). the anemone is at the bottom of tank and even when looking ill/dying, his foot is always secure!!!it doesn"t feel abnormally slimey to the touch(that is with latex gloves on though as dont want to know how bad they sting!). theres no coral near it. and when its fine it really is fine, spreading out around 11" .

my only other question is could this be my lighting?? i have an arcadia 3 setup, hanging 20cm above water level.its got 150w m/h and two 18 watt flouresents(blue). the water is 16" deep. any help or information appreciated as im not sure whats going on with it and if it looks bad, i may take it to my lfs and px it!!!!!
the two pictures i have posted are a before and after!! the first was taken at 21.13. the second was taken at 7am the following morning!! sorry for the lengthy thread, but im trying to give as much info as possible!!! cheers.

You English and the cheers!! :)
Think of it this way, mate... Anemones only have one hole, and that is for eating and excreting... So what goes in must come out!! If you see a long stringy brown/white slime it is most likely waste being expelled!!
    No worries.

Also I would make sure you have the most lighting possible for the Sebea as they need strong lighting and good water quality!!

Goodl luck from across the pond!
    Happy reefing!

Looks brown and healthy to me. How much do you feed it? Anemones tend to shrivel up often in order to, well, "poop" if you will. That's what that mucus stuff is, based on the info you have given.

How established is your tank? How many gallons?

without being to complicated, i had my old tank for 1 year.then i got this setup (bigger is best) around 5 months ago, i then transferred everything over from my old tank. its 160 liters(uk) or 35 gallons(uk). it definetly cycled a bit when i first did change over, but seems fine now. i feed the tank mysis/cyclo every other day,and a sprinkling of flake twice a day(in am and pm). is that too much or too little. since owning the anemone i have only directly fed twice, the first it didn"t like(squid) the second was mysis, which i poured over it!!! seeming as the anemone catches alot of food when i feed the tank, i just let it be now!! thanks all

I have two seabe's and only mid-grade lighting and they do fine. Yours looks good and healthy and brown. Don't worry about it shriveling up - they do that from time to time and sometimes quite often :)

sounds to me that it is getting too much light or that it has retreated in there because maybe the water current is to strong for it(it couldn"t fine a low spot). was it moving around the tank before it went and hid away in the hole??if so it must be one of them 2 things. i take it it is eating ok??
will just say that it does look a bit white in the pics, thats not that good a sign i know that much!!!!
