I read that TM Pro reef can cause diatoms and film algae. Has anyone ever experience this? I do have a little diatom thing on my Pink Birdsnest. I dont think its from the salt but not totally sure either.

Unless the salt contains silicates and phosphates or some other form of unwanted dissolved organics to elevate your nutrient level in your tank....I would not take that reading too serious!
I would be more concerned about the type of water you use to create your saltwater for a water change!!!!!!!!!! RO/Di water or regular Tap water for example!

I was thinking of switching to Reef Crystals. What do people think?

    I use reef crystals

Whenever i mix a fresh batch, these are the readings i get

    Ca - 300
    Mg - 1400
    Alk - 11dKH

maybe something is up with my ca test kit but then again, my LFS got the same readings

Although I've never tried anything else, I like IO reef crystals. Never had a problem

TMP does have about 0.03ppm of phosphates. Without a means of getting it out of you water it can build up and cause algae problems. Mind you most of the food you feed your fish with has a lot more phosphates, and is likely a larger cause.

Tropic Marin is my favorite salt... But not the Pro Reef... The regular stuff...

I do use RC most of the time, cause I cant always find TM locally...

I tryed Pro Reef once, and diddnt like it at all, acually Pro Reef was the only salt I didnt like. I dont get it really...

I've used both the pro and the regular version, and didn't have any issues.

I would recommend to switch to Red Sea before IO or RC, heck at this point after all the problems IO and RC have had I would switch to Mortens!!!
If you haven't read it already this might help.

Some people like the cheapness of IO but supplement w/ CaCl2 and MgCl2 when mixing up water, IME thats just counterproductive and one more thing I have to fool around w/.

    Good luck
