Im going to be building a stand for my 180 that will be connected to the basment wall to look as if its part of the wall. Question is do i use treated wood as the bottom frame and tapcon it to the concrete floor and use regular wood for the rest of the stand? I want something strong that will last 10+ years.

    Thanks
    Dennis

if you want it to last for along time i would definitely do treated wood or atleast use some protective stain.

I used PT wood for the frame and used regular Pine for the rest of it. My understanding is that PT is stronger than regular. Dont know if thats true or not, but I did it that way. Luna

Treated wood would be a wise decision if sitting on a concrete floor, me personally I would use all treated for the frame, it not that much more expensive.

But tapcons IMO are a wast of time, use construction adhesive, it ain't gonna move once it got all that weight on it thats for sure.....

Depending on where you live PT is usually made out of either Southern Yellow pine or Hem/Fir, as far as strength Souther yellow Pine is considerably stronger than northern pine, I have seen it bend nails coming out of a nail gun.

Ive read not to use treated wood on the entire stand due to the way treated wood twists and such. I wanted to use tapcons for that reason also, to secure it to concrete so it doesnt twist or move at all.

Most wood will twist and wrap given the right conditions. Luna

Pressure Treated, which means that it has all kinds of chemicals to include arsenic. This kind of process is used in tropical climates where termites exist. Luna

So what do i do about a stand? My floor is concrete with tile over it, there are very slight traces of moisture different parts of the year, never damp or wet to the touch but u can tell a difference in the moisture when u walk across it with tennis shoes on once in a great while.

I would use PT or treated wood for the frame and reg. wood for the rest, but thats just me. You have many choices to pick from as to what to use. Just remember to check the floor to see if its leveled or not. Luna
