I am quickly making progress on my 75 dis / 40b sump-fuge and i have am confused about how to start out. Currently i am packing my established 20 gal full of dry rock to help cycle it. I would say i have about 30lbs of rock cycled. In addition i have about 35 lbs more of dry rock and 120lbs of dry sand. Can i transfer all my cycled rock, water, and livestock over to the dry sand and dry rock filled 75 on the same day and be okay? Or should i add bits of cycled rock at a time?

    Thanks for any help, Andrew.

plz wait until your big 75g tank is done cycling or else you run a risk of losing a lot of your corals/ fish, if the tank is not ready, as for the live rock if it has no corals in it , you can go ahead and put that into your big tank.

i hope i answer your question.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Andrew I would add the sand fill the tank and let it run for 24 hours, just to make sure SG and temp are good than I would move stuff over to the new tank. You will probably have to remove some water in tank, but I think overall you will be better off.

Thanks, i only have two small fish so the bio load is not very high.. should i expect the typical algal stages and a minor cycle? in my eyes i just figured its the same bio load, same rock + some, and simply more water in which pollutants would better dilute into. I like the 24 hr wait time too, this will allow sand to settle as well.

If this is true dry rock, it shouldnt really need to cycle. I'd do as corrailine suggested, shouldn't really cycle anything unless there is dead organic material on something.

Then you're good to go. Just be sure to acclimate the fish. :)

FYI, the bacterial colonies are dynamic, not static. IOW, they grow and shrink according to the bio-load. Since you're moving the same load and filter, you'll be fine. I've switched tanks in the very same manner several times for myself and others and have never had any problems.

    Hope this helps.
