Quick question, I currently have two 600 gph powerheads in my 37g tall tank, and I am having issues with dead spots. I am planning on upgrading to a 75 or 90g in a few months. Would a 1050gph going to be too much for my tank? I have a lot of sps. I don't want to buy one with less flow, being that I will need some stronger ones for my new tank.

in terms of flow a 600 gph and a 1050 gph pump gives you 44.5 times tank volume per hour, which is by no means excessive

although the confines of a 37 gallon tank, may mean you have to much flow from a single source ( the 1050) and it may prove tricky to direct this flow in a way that all your live stock are happy there after

certainly worth trying , and give the corals a day or 3 to acclimatise
I have noticed with LPS and softies they often react to an increase by closing up
but once adjusted come back to full inflation within a few days once they realise that its maxed again and there is not a storm brewing

Agree with Steve. The overall flow is fine, just to much from one source.

So basically you're saying that I can put them about a half inch from my green star polyps, pointed directly at them, and kill two birds with one stone? ;)

I don't have very much soft and lps. If I put the powerhead up high, and point it down towards an area of my tank that is mainly sps, it should be fine? I could take out one of the 600's until things adjust..

flow is also dependent on ur rockscape.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but how do you know if there is too much flow? I have a 425gph PH and a Koralia nano 295?, in a 28 nano cube. I have 2 clowns in there and they both seem to be blown around and hang around alot in the back of the tank. If I point the clow really low at the rock scape they seem to swim around more, but my coral is not as happy. I put the extra flow in there because of cyano (which disappeared with the increase).
