Today sucked, but paid off.

I've been feeling a little off lately in terms of health, and today it hit me like a freight train. I could barely do much of anything around my apartment, but it didn't stop me from getting 1 hell of a deal! While laying in bed with my laptop, I found a local reefer who was parting out one of his tanks and was getting rid of a bunch of stuff. I picked up a Coralife 65G superskimmer and a Ocean Runner 6500 for $30! The skimmer is awesome, and already running awesome on my nano, and was only missing the sponge for the return basket and the mount for the powerhead. The Ocean Runner on the other hand has seen better days. I basically bought the skimmer for $30, and got the pump for free because it wasn't working. It appears to have been dropped while setup as an external pump (There was a 1 1/4" ball valve attached to the bayonet housing). The hooks on the bayonet housing are broken, there is a chip in the plastic housing, and the threads for the output are slightly stripped. The bayonet housing will need replacement, and the chip doesn't go into the motor compartment, it's only on the inlet side. I will probably fix the stripped threads by putting some epoxy on a piece of PVC and gently screw it into the hole in hopes of rebuilding those threads. If that doesn't work, I'll just glue the crap out of that fitting and hope it holds. The part that sucks the most is that the impeller is shot. The magnet looks kind of like it exploded. There are tears running down the length of the shaft that are filled with rust, and the the magnet is quite swollen in general. I had to use more force than I was epecting to remove it. Overall, i'm happy with the purchase, I would've paid more for just the skimmer, and I hope to get the pump working for less than the cost of a new one. If anyone has an OR impeller that they wouldn't mind getting rid of, let me know.

    In summation:
Got sick, bought equipment, great deal, need parts, very happy.

I'm sorry to hear you aren't doing too well either. I hope you get well soon.

You can see the chip in the case as well as how completely obliterated the impeller is. Gotta call Aqua Medic when I'm feeling better about a replacement because I can't find anyone on the web that even sells one.

Don't even get me started on radiation. I've been to the x-ray center so many times, all the radiologists and secretaries know me by name, how sad is that.

Nice score by the way. The skimmer looks slightly like overkill on that tank but as long as it gets the job done.

Thanks. It's very overkill, about 6.5x more filtration capacity than necessary, but the JEBO 180 I was using started leaking around the base of the collection cup, and I couldn't find a way to immediately stop it. So I took advantage of the situation and upgraded.
