Just got a coral shipment in from slatwaterfish.com and noticed the toadstool leather has a hole in the middle. I assume this is not normal and I am just wondering if it will be okay judging from the pic. Already in the process of notifying them so they can't say we did it.

I don't know about the hole, but toadstools are very resilient creatures and can survive pretty much everything. Mine has been through hell and back since it was my first coral and I could never get it to attach. It came about the size of a half dollar, grew some and then came detached from it post when I accidentally blasted it with a new powerhead. Then for the longest time I couldn't get it to reattach and it shrunk down to dime size and now it has reattached itself and is growing nicely.

Just for future reference, I don't know how often you order from saltwaterfish.com, but from what I hear around here, they are a bad place to order from. IMO there are a lot better places to get corals from.

Yea, I have heard about them before. For the most part we have been pretty lucky wth them, except the blue maxima clam we ordered from them that was already dying. So we had a $50 credit plus a $10 off coupon from them so it was kinda hard to pass up. I would definelty perfer to use liveaquaria as I have nothing but good things about them.

Reef Empire, who has an ebay store and is a 3reef sponsor, has excellent products too. I got some duncans and rhodactis mushrooms from them and they are doing great. You should check them out too.

Hi calli, that isn't a toadstool, it is a type of leather coral, but not a toad. I have the one you have and it is a mat type but really doesn't spread. The hole is just a spot not completed and will probably grow together. Check it out.

I'm confused, are you talking about the coral at the very bottom of the picture? His looks like a toadstool to me, just doesn't have all of the polyps extended.

Look's more like a type of finger leather or a devil's hand.

I am talking about the leather (orange) coral with the colony of Green Stars. His/Hers are just closed. Blow up the pic 2X and you can see it better.
