Per the recommendations of a few people on here this morning they said i should grab a few more power heads I think it was Steve(thanks by the way) Big Al's is having a 50% off sale so i grabbed 2 more. So now i will have 2 koralia 750gph and 2 1400 gph, just wondering if that will be to much flow for a 75gal tank? how do you calc turn over rate? Thanks

That's a lot of flow for a 75g. I guess if you have mainly SPS it's fine, but some of the tentacled LPS and softies may be blown around a lot by that much.

I would try and it and then revise it accordingly to your satisfaction. Having extra pumps is always a + no matter if you use them all or not.

You add up the ammount of gallons per hour then divide by gallons :) I hve round about 4500 or so gph(with my filter and ph's) in a 75 so that's what 60x or so...but all my inhab's love it! I pointed one of the ph's at the surface to churn more water

The rock positioning and sand type will control wether you can use all of them along with the animal types you have. I have a 75 and use 2 1050, a 750 and a nano which is 240 and my return which is 270. I have sugar sized sand. If I use much more flow then I have sand flying in the tank.

Nice thanks for all the help I think ill put the 1400s toward the top and the 750s lower so i can move all the open water around more and not be blasting the rocks lol will more water movement effect water evaporation?

Extra circulation does not directly effect evaporation IMO
The additional heat created by the pumps may account for some slight evaporation increase
depending on ambient temp in the room where the tank is

(my tank typically evaps more if the room is cooler than the reef tank)

definitely have the 2 larger ones working the water surface, as this will give you great gas exchange and make the upper 3rd of your tank SPS friendly

Yes, but it is a good thing because you will have better gas exchange. Make sure that a couple are aimed toward the surface.

I have 2 Koralia nano 425's in my 29g. I plan on adding a third and my return pump will be 450gph. That's 69X turnover in my soon to be SPS-dominent reef.
Also remember that a 29g tank won't necessarily hold 29g of water. With 22 lbs of rock (so far; I may add more) there's only 25g of water in the DT.

How warm do most of you keep your tank to min evaporation rate?
