I got a CuC from a friend a few days ago, and it just hit me, I've never seen anyone with this amount of inverts, especially crabs, in a 40G, so I'll ask what you guys think. I got a cleaner shrimp, 2 lettuce nudis (which have now cleaned what they were supposed to so I will be giving them to my LFS to prevent death), an emerald crab (he was a hitchhiker, but still an area of concern), and I'd say 53 Blue Leg/3 Red Leg/2 Jade hermits. Should I sell some or should I be fine so long as I feed them? These guys demolished my GHA and keep my sand sifted, none are faded and none have died, I would hate for the latter to have to be changed.

You can do either. Do what you feel is best for all concerned. I think having more than 15 to 20 hermits could be too much in your tank.

hermits make it a pain to feed meat to coral . FYI.

the numbers are probably OK, given (and assuming) you don't have snails.

It is my preference, however, to have a large variety of species for better job diversification and not too many of any one breed or other.

Your hermits will never (or ever so rarely) clean your powerheads, for example.
