So I just put in my LR and sand and waiting for the water to clean up. Question is when do I start my protein skimmer? Now or wait for everything to kind of settle before I start?

By the way so excited, its actually looking like a real tank. WEEEEEEEEE

i skim on set up but some people will tell you to wait 6 months. your LR will have organics coming off of it so it will have stuff to skim also the skimmer will clear your water of floating sand

I think it depends on the rock you start with (the more stuff that is on it, the more organics that will be going to the water.). I skim from the start. I had dark skimmate on my first day of setup (day 1 of LR in tank) during my most recent setup.
