Oh new idea, new idea.. ill make a new pic to show the idea..

The timer now controls both Valves at the same time. They both open at the same time for the lower water level. When they close, the water rises to the top supply line and the pouring effect will churn the water in a somewhat tidal fashion until the water level rises to the top level drain and so forth.

You could also make a somewhat surge device by having the pump feed a bucket with the siphon set up in it. Then just set the overflow low enough for low tide then just make sure the overflow in small enough that it drains slowly and the siphon the the bucket small enough that it wont surge to hard.

Lol not what I meant.. When your "tide" drops, the previously submerged glass is gunna smell like salty sh*t. I think your underestimating the stank big time my man. I think I'd just turn that lil thing into a frag tank or something. Or save the cash, and just get some cool stuff for your 29.

haha if he keeps getting new ideas im afraid the cost will go $12 dollars more each time LOL

All in all i think it is a great project. Im hoping it works out!! There are some cool anemones you can have in a tidal pool btw! maybe some starfish!.

If nitrates are a problem maybe you could add some mangroves and chaeto..

maybe its just me, but when i do water changes i dont really smell much?
I mean, nothing that makes me want to turn away anyway..

i dont think a 6.5G tank can make it that stinky... but who knows:p if it doesnt work out, it can always become a small lagoon or frag tank.

    Thanks.

lol. No more updating the plumbing. We've got it right where I want it. I wonder if I can find a bigger container(but not too big) to make the wave effect greater. Right now high tide will only be about 2 inches above low tide. 6.5g is a nice size, but I would like to get something that is taller - without loosing the big length and width of the tank. I'll keep looking.

An anemone would be great. I was thinking about maxi-minis, but it seems like most are much brighter colors than what you would actually see in the ocean.

For starfish, I was thinking maybe brittle stars, but could I add something with more color? Most of the orange/red sea stars on LA get 10" +.

A normal overflow would not work here. Imagine this....

You have a overflow set at 60% height of the display tank for your low mark. You have a CSD (Carlson Surge Device) attached to display. When the CSD empties into the tank, it will raise the water level above the overflow. This in turn will cause another siphon effect just like the CSD, rapidly emptying the DT.

I have built several of these devices and love them, but most will not like the bubbles inherent in a simpler model, especially with a top-down tank.

If it smellas bad then I will probably just stop the tide motion and leave it as a lagoon tank.
