I'll toss my hat in the SpectraPure ring as well. I have a MaxCap system, 180gpd dual membrane, it's amazingly well built, and deff. the right price.

The Vertex systems are very poorly thought out and have been receiving a lot of well deserved criticism. All membranes must be flushed and that is the reason for the 4:1 waste ratio. Personally I don't think they wil be in the RO/DI business for long. I can elaborate but prefer not to do it in an open forum.

PM's sent to both of you. To keep from PMing a hundred different interested parties let me suffice to say poor construction using 120v AC power instead of DC power, poor choice of connectors as in exposed wire nuts next to water components, lack of continous waste flushing, using plain tap water when they do flush and more. All the major RO/DI manufactureres tried similar systems years and years ago and gave up since it just plain does not work for long. Read some of the many complaints on all the reef related forums. Short membrane and DI life pop up all the time. If it were that easy Spectrapure would not have spent thousands or hours and dollars developing the MaxCap UHE system which is not a cheap proposition. I own the UHE personally and would be glad to compare it side by side with some of the other systems that keep poping up.
