Cons: Takes some research and depending on your learning curve can be frustrating ;-)

Pros: many add-ons and can do anything you want it to

IT would help to know what you are looking to do. How do you control your equipment?

Fyi, the RKL has a bit of a learning curve, but once you learn to navigate through the programming, possibilities are endless. There are so many benefits imo, i havent used other reef controllers but I love mine. Since adding my koralias to the wavemaker function, i have far less dead zones and algae growth. My heater stays within a .2 degree temperature change (im not joking, it only fluctuates between 79.3 to 79.5). And i will soon be setting up my ATO float switch that has fail safes with timers so that it only runs for a few minutes at most, a couple of times a day.

Give the RKL a chance before you go out and try to change asap. You may regret it in the long run.

Agreed...everything I've read about Apex is sick. It was out of my price range however when I got my RK Elite. I've heard good things about the Reef Angel but the programming sounded daunting so I passed. I wish EcoTech would allow Digital Aquatics to create a module to incorporate Vortechs...only thing I feel "shorted" on when it comes to the RKE.

I love my RKL just dont know if im missing out on more like the vortech control. I have had my RKL for almost a 6 months now there isnt anything i cant do with it, but maybe i should upgrade it to the RKE? what would i really use over the RKE from the RKL?

The Apex does the same things as the RKE. The apex is internet capable without having to buy extra modules (must have NET module with RK). The RKL will only allow 4 total modules...pc4s, sl1, etc. The RKE allows for unlimited modules...i.e. more controllable outlets.
