Is been a VERY stressful week at work and won't be over until Sunday morning. Inventory is Friday night and I work over night Saturday as well. Hubby looks at me today, realizes I want to pound my head against a wall and says we are going to the LFS to pick you something new out and I WANT to join you. :sweethear My hubby HATES going off base. I know I'm not getting another fish, I really don't want another as of now but maybe I will pick up a "beginner" coral. The LFS here is very clean, kept up and have an array of nice looking corals. They have zoas, mushrooms, and few others as well. They still have my feather dusters too (hmm lol.)

What ya'll think? We will probably go Saturday or Sunday so I still have a few days to think about it.

    Congrats Pet mother

tank was born on Jan 3rd?
might be a bit quick to go for corals IMO

If you dont have the full range of test kits - Mag, Calcium, Alkalinity, Phosphate kits would be a very useful gift that you will appreciate when you do start adding corals

well feather duster actually isnt a coral and you don't even need lights; fluorescents would actually cut it. They're pretty easy; I myself might get one too :) would look good with the peppermint shrimp i bought today

sounds great! if you want to be extra safe, get GSP (green star polyps), they're practically invincible. make sure you put them on an island of their own. they're known to reproduce fast. a Kenya tree, or shroom and other zoos might work also. but your tank is pretty young...

The large Hawian ones, I have kept a few over the years and they tended to do well for me
they dont like very strong current as it bends and damages the feathers, making it useless as a net for capturing food stuffs
they dont care about lighting IME and do well even when inadvertently (after arranging rockwork) end up facing the rear tank wall in semi darkness

its the newness of the set up thats the main concern for me Pet Mother
its less than one month old and may still experience parameter swings

not saying it will not do well
its just my personal preference to leave the tank for 2 - 3 months before adding anything other than CUC or hardy fish

I think the feather duster would be the way to go. You might also be able to get away with zoas and mushrooms they are hardy coral and the parameters do not need to be kept in as tight of a range.
