Thank you LFS for cyano. P.S. I hate you.

    If you had said;

I did a Nitrate test, or
I did a Phosphate test, or
    I did an Iron test,

then I would blame your LFS. Blaming your LFS for cyano because you have cyano and the water has TDS means you don't understand TDS. For all you know, the TDS was Calcium, Magnesium, etc.

was that ro/di fresh or salt water? saltwater would register as tds as well.

DOC's is going to give way to a rise in nitrates and thus cyano ......

I should have went further, I did test for P04 as well, and it was high. The TDS was just the first test.

Ok, not to sound callous but I make my own ro/di and I still test my water from time to time (before and after salt mix). I need to say that this is on you and the lfs – hopefully with calm heads they will work with you to resolve your bacteria issue.

For quite some time I did test the water I put in my tank from a LFS and never had any issues. Always good water. Well, this time I was coming from the other side of town and stopped in at a LFS I do normally go too for fish/corals but never water. Always had healthy livestock so I assumed or didnt put to much thought in testing before I did my water change. So, yes I can see how I was not 100%, but on the other hand if you are selling clean ro/di it should be so. Or at least I feel. I called the store and they tested their water and called me back to apologize, and they did tell me they received a few other calls about it as well. They gave me a $20 store credit, so I am happy with there honesty and will go back again.

There ya go. I've worked at LFS's. One LFS, stopped changing their filters and membranes and resins after I left. When I was there, he didn't have a choice but to have excellent water because I just ordered and installed new filters. I would use that water myself. However, once I left, the store never changed them. It's your tank. There are people 'who care about your tank and there are people who don't. I have no clue if your LFS owner is dishonest, honest but one of his employees is lieing, etc. Ultimately, it's your job to doublecheck. If you tell your LFS owner what you found and it doesn't change, well that says a whole heck of a lot doesn't it.

EDIT: MY post above was being typed before I saw the last post Nittygritty made.

How much water have you been using from the LFS that had the bad water? I can't imagine a bucket of bad water pushing your params to a point where the nutrients were high enough for cyano.

    - How stocked is your tank?
    - How often do you feed?
    - Are you running a skimmer?
    - Are you running GFO media for PO4?
    - How much circulation do you have?
    - Are your bulbs old?

My old 55g developed cyano from me using tap water initially to start it up before doing ro/di. The PO4 had saturated in my rocks/sand and I got a pretty annoying bloom of it.

Thanks for the info, what type of fish are the 8? Is it 5 Tangs and 3 Groupers (kidding)?

Is the food in cubes, do you rinse prior to feeding?

Still think that one time usage of the water wouldn't create the cyano. 15g vs 55g volume (give or take from displacement for rock/sand) shouldn't swing your nutrients high enough to create the problem. What do your NA test out as normally?
